City Boy Movement national director for media monitoring and rapid response, Bashir Ahmad, denies that he scored only 16 votes in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary in 2022. The dispute resurfaces after the claim was circulated online following a viral post by Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, known as Davido.
Ahmad says the figure is incorrect and argues that no credible primary election was conducted. In a post on his official X account, he asserts there is evidence the process was rigged, including videos and other materials. He also says that if the primary had been credible, he would have won, and he urges Davido and his supporters to stop repeating the claim.
The outlets report the same core allegation and response, with both describing Ahmad’s denial and his explanation that the primary lacked transparency. Neither outlet provides independent verification of vote totals or the specific contents of the alleged evidence, and both frame the controversy as based on claims being circulated publicly.
