A farmer in Rajasthan’s Balotra area buries about Rs 5 lakh in cash in his field to keep it safe, but the money is later destroyed by termites after he forgets the exact spot. According to reports, the cash is unearthed during ploughing after rainfall, when the buried material comes to the surface.
The farmer, who reportedly received the money after selling a plot, says he feared the cash could be stolen or spent by family members. He placed the Rs 500 notes in a polythene bag and buried it at night without informing his family. When he later needs the money, he searches for the location in his field for several days but cannot find it, and only later involves his family, who also searches.
Outlets describe similar events but differ slightly in emphasis: one account focuses on a viral video showing torn, termite-infested notes in the opened bag, while another highlights that banks refuse to accept the damaged currency and suggest the family approach a Jaipur branch. Both accounts say the family is left in financial difficulty while the farmer hopes the notes can be exchanged or recovered.
