A 31-year-old (reported as 31–32 across outlets) Bengaluru-based tech professional, Advait/Advaith Upadhyay, is still missing after going on a solo trek to Shivaganga hills in Tumakuru district earlier this month. Police and multiple rescue teams have been searching steep areas around Shantala/Shanthala Drop, a restricted and dangerous section of the hill, using drones and ground operations. Authorities have recovered his shoulder bag and sweater near the drop area but have not found him or his body.

Outlets differ in emphasis as investigators build the case. Some reports cite CCTV showing him reaching the hill around early morning and not returning, with a video call reportedly made to his fiancée from another point before his phone lost signal. Others focus on digital findings, including searches on his laptop using an AI tool about Shivaganga height, routes to Shantala Drop, and the likely impact or survival time from a fall, which has led some to question whether he may have planned suicide. Police also trace his phone activity, including it later switching off after moving roughly 20–22 km from the drop area, and say they are considering possibilities including an accident, suicide, or foul play.

Family members dispute conclusions and suspect kidnapping, while investigators also examine personal-life and device-related leads. Search efforts have been hindered at times by bad weather and difficult terrain, and at least one rock-climbing rescue attempt has been conducted to check areas below the cliff.
