Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni says former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele deserve most of the credit for the establishment of the Dangote Refinery, rather than President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He makes the argument in response to claims by Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) chairman Zacch Adedeji about the current government’s economic record.
According to the reports, Adedeji discusses Tinubu’s tenure on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” citing higher government revenue and the refinery’s growing role in domestic fuel supply. Oseni counters that the refinery is not a product of the current administration, arguing it became possible under Buhari, particularly through policies that supported naira stability during Emefiele’s CBN leadership. He also criticises the government for not fully meeting crude oil supply commitments to the refinery, saying Dangote still purchases Nigerian crude internationally and imports it back.
While Oseni acknowledges some economic gains under Tinubu, he argues broader impacts on citizens and businesses have not been adequately addressed, pointing to corporate foreign-exchange losses and wider GDP effects mentioned in the coverage.
