Liverpool’s ownership is nearing a significant change as Fenway Sports Group (FSG) moves toward selling a minority stake in the Premier League club. Multiple outlets report that the deal would transfer roughly 30% of Liverpool to a consortium of investors, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos named as part of the group.
The consortium is reported to be led by businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The Guardian says the stake sale is close to completing after months of talks with FSG, and that the transaction may take up to a month to finalize. Inside World Football reports the sale would be valued around $6bn, and indicates FSG would retain control of the club rather than ending its 16-year ownership period. Both reports characterize the move as an infusion of new investment while FSG remains in place for now, pending final agreement and completion.
