Atiku Abubakar rallies for ADC candidate Salaam in Osun governorship election

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has asked the people of Osun state to vote for Najeem Salaam, governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Saturday’s election. The ADC presidential candidate made the appeal on Monday during the grand finale of the ADC governorship campaign rally in Osogbo, the state capital. The former vice-president said the ADC is different from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord, and assured residents that they would not regret voting for the party. “This is the fourth time I am standing on this podium, and each time I stood here, you gave me your vote. I cannot forget that,” Atiku said.  He recalled his previous visits to the state, saying he had campaigned for Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor, and later returned during his presidential campaign, adding that residents supported him on both occasions. Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 354,366 votes to defeat Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 343,945 votes. “I have come today to appeal to you again to vote for the ADC. This is because the ADC, I can assure you, is different from APC, Accord, and all other parties. The best of Nigerians are in the ADC today,” Atiku said. “So, I have come, and I appeal to you: in the next governorship election, you should vote for ADC. I believe you will not regret voting ADC in the forthcoming elections; that is why I have come personally to relate with you, to thank you for your previous support and to appeal to you to vote ADC in the next gubernatorial election.” Atiku thanked the supporters for their turnout at the rally, saying their presence is significant to the party’s confidence in its chances of winning the election.  David Mark, ADC national chairman; Rauf Aregbesola, the party’s national secretary and former Osun governor; and other party leaders were also at the rally to canvass support for Salaam ahead of the polls.
