BTCPay Server says it is offering a reward of up to 3 bitcoin (about $190,000) for information that helps recover funds stolen during last week’s attack on Lightning Network-related payment infrastructure. The project says it will pay 10% of any amount recovered, and it states that the bounty is open even to the attackers.
According to BTCPay, the theft is linked to attackers obtaining LND credentials and using an exploit to drain merchant Lightning wallets. The project is also rewarding researchers who helped identify the vulnerability involved as investigations continue. While both outlets report the bounty size and the 10% payout structure, they emphasize slightly different framing: one highlights that the bounty could apply even to the attackers, while the other focuses on how the servers were drained after credential theft.
The offered reward is part of an ongoing effort to trace and recover the stolen bitcoin, with BTCPay continuing to coordinate with researchers as the incident is examined.
