Amazon Game Studios is stepping back from its MMO business by ending its publishing role for two games, Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty. Multiple outlets report that Amazon will transfer live operations for both titles in Western markets to other companies.
The move follows earlier signals that Amazon planned to reduce certain MMO-focused efforts. The Verge notes that Amazon had previously said last year it would halt a “significant amount” of its first-party AAA work, specifically around MMOs. Polygon adds that the shift aligns with Amazon Game Studios redirecting attention toward other projects, including Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
While the outlets differ in emphasis—some foreground the overall exit from MMOs and others focus on which specific games are affected—they converge on the same operational outcome: Amazon stops publishing those two MMOs in the West and hands off ongoing support and management to different partners.
