A heavy crane used for Mumbai Metro 2B construction breaks down near Juhu Circle early Thursday, blocking part of the road and causing major traffic backups in the Andheri West area. Video of vehicles queued near the work zone circulates online.
Reports say the malfunction happens after a night of installing metro girders, during which the northbound carriageway is temporarily converted into a two-way road, reducing available road space. Congestion grows to about 2 km queues on either side and spills into nearby stretches as the crew works to clear the blocked equipment.
The MMRDA is present at the site and indicates traffic on the stretch will be restored. A spare part is reportedly called for to fix or reposition the crane, and removal work continues through the day. Mumbai Traffic Police issue an advisory urging commuters to avoid the route toward Juhu Circle (D.N. Nagar). No injuries or casualties are reported, and by around 1:30 pm parts of the crane are removed, allowing at least one lane to reopen on the affected road.
