Videos from August 10 show her attending the historic Sri Mahankaleshwara Ammavari Temple in Miralam Mandi, dancing and carrying a Bonam. After the footage circulates online, some users attack her for taking part in a Hindu festival, questioning her faith and using the term “kafir.”

In her response, reported on August 15, Abdullah describes her background and upbringing. She says her father converted to Islam and that she was raised to recognize and value positive aspects of the religion. She also says she sees God and meaning in everyday life and nature, and that she prays for love, unity and peace.
