Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says it is responding to an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account. In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the military says the incident is treated as a cybersecurity matter.
The DHQ says it activates appropriate technical measures to secure the account and block further unauthorised access. It also says efforts are ongoing to fully restore control of the account.
Pending restoration, the military urges the public, media, and stakeholders to ignore any suspicious, unauthorised, or misleading content that may appear on the X account. It advises Nigerians to rely on the DHQ’s verified channels on other platforms—such as its Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp channel—for accurate updates. The statement also reiterates the armed forces’ commitment to information security and says further updates will be provided as necessary.
