Adeleke’s re-election: Tambuwal and Osun officials congratulate governor and voters

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, describing the outcome as a victory for democracy and the people of the state.In a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, Tambuwal said the August 15, 2026, governorship election had once again given Osun residents the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.“I warmly congratulate His Excellency, Governor Adeleke, on his re-election as Governor of Osun State. This victory is not only a personal triumph for Governor Adeleke; it is a victory for democracy and, above all, a victory for the people of Osun State, who have once again exercised their constitutional right to determine who leads them,” he said.     Tambuwal emphasised that the ballot remains the strongest expression of the people’s will in a democracy. He noted that when citizens freely make their choice and that choice is respected, democratic institutions are strengthened and public confidence in the electoral process deepens.He commended Osun voters for their participation and commitment to the democratic process, while congratulating Adeleke for earning their renewed confidence.The former Sokoto State governor urged Adeleke to view the fresh mandate as a greater responsibility to serve all residents of the state, regardless of political affiliation.“As he prepares to continue the work of governance, I urge him to see this renewed mandate as an even greater responsibility to serve all the people of Osun State, irrespective of political affiliation. I wish my brother, Governor Adeleke, wisdom, strength and success as he continues to serve the good people of Osun State,” Tambuwal said.He concluded: “Congratulations, Your Excellency. Congratulations to the people of Osun State. Democracy has won.”The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the election after he polled 511,067 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
