Adiala jail authorities submit a report to Pakistan’s Supreme Court stating that former prime minister Imran Khan’s eye condition has improved significantly and his vision is now almost normal. The report is filed ahead of the court’s scheduled hearing of Khan’s plea seeking treatment at Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital.

Khan, founder of PTI, has been in jail since August 2023 and is taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad multiple times for eye treatment after his ailment—right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO)— is reported in late January. Sources also describe an ongoing dispute between PTI and the government, including accusations and counter-accusations about transparency and whether Khan has received appropriate medical care.

The jail authorities’ report says Khan and his wife, Bushra, are being provided with adequate healthcare facilities and that their health and well-being are a priority for the jail administration. Other parties, including Khan’s supporters, continue to press for specific treatment arrangements, including Shifa and involvement of his personal physicians, as the Supreme Court prepares to consider the case.
