The Bombay High Court disposes of a commercial intellectual property suit connected to a social media identity dispute involving singer Sonu Nigam. On August 13, the court records a settlement after both sides inform it that the matter is resolved amicably and consent terms are filed.
The singer had approached the court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights. His petition alleges that a different person using the name “Sonu Nigam” on social media could mislead the public into thinking accounts or services are connected to, endorsed by, or belong to him. The High Court had previously passed an ad-interim order in July 2025 restricting the use of the display or account name “Sonu Nigam,” and the lawyers state that it is complied with.
In the settlement, the namesake agrees not to use Sonu Nigam’s identity, image, likeness, or related attributes online without authorization. Reports describe the court accepting the consent terms as undertakings, with both parties confirming the dispute is settled according to the agreed conditions.
