Electronic Arts is making Battlefield 6 available as a free trial starting today and running through August 25. Multiple outlets link the timing to the simultaneous launch of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, which begins August 21 and runs until August 25, offering players an early look at the game’s multiplayer and campaign.

The Battlefield 6 free period coincides with the game’s Season 4 mid-season update. Outlets say the update includes content such as a return of the Wake Island map and the debut of a Top Gun crossover, along with a new mode called Carrier Strike and additional maps including Tsuru Reef, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base. Metro also frames the overlap as a competitive move, saying EA “trolls” the rival franchise.

While Battlefield 6’s trial itself is free, at least one report says access to the Modern Warfare 4 beta during this first window requires preordering. A later beta test (August 28 to September 1) is described as open to everyone, with expanded platform availability that includes Switch 2.
