Singapore plans new measures to support its asset management industry, including tax exemptions for certain fund-management profits and expanded visa options for investment professionals, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) says.

MAS and the finance ministry will introduce tax exemptions for profits earned by fund managers managing specified funds, including funds associated with single family offices. The government will provide further details in next year’s budget. The moves are framed as part of Singapore’s response to intensifying competition from other financial centres, with outlets noting that Hong Kong has also announced or is expected to announce incentives for fund professionals.

Separately, Singapore will broaden access to the Overseas Networks & Expertise (ONE) Pass for investment professionals. Under the planned approach, the visa can be valid for up to five years, can support work for multiple companies simultaneously, and is intended to reduce the need for a new application when professionals change jobs. MAS also indicates it will use an investment programme to encourage hedge funds committed to building or deepening operations in Singapore, with further information to follow.
