Former Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga is set to receive his undergraduate degree certificate more than 60 years after completing his examination. He appeared for his final undergraduate exams in 1966 at Dhanamanjuri College in Manipur, then affiliated with Gauhati University, with English as his major subject. He passed with a second-class result.
According to reports, he did not collect the certificate at the time and later joined the Mizo National Front, going underground soon after his exams. The degree certificate is stated to have remained preserved by Gauhati University throughout the intervening decades. Times of India reports that the delay is linked to insurgency-related circumstances, while NDTV focuses on the long gap and the fact that the certificate is now being issued.
The university is arranging a function in which Zoramthanga will collect the certificate on Thursday.
