A man is arrested in Mumbai after allegedly impersonating a transgender person and entering a woman’s home on a pretext of performing a ritual, before sexually assaulting her. The accused is identified as Anil Sheshrao Shinde, and the incident is reported to have occurred in the Powai area.
According to police accounts cited by both outlets, Shinde visits the residence and claims he is acting to ward off evil eyes or protect the household. Once inside, he is said to enter the bedroom, threaten the survivor, and assault her. After the complaint, Powai police register a case and investigate.
The reporting also describes how investigators trace him using CCTV footage from the area and follow his movements as he leaves in an autorickshaw. He is later apprehended in Kharegaon, Thane, and police urge residents to verify the identity and purpose of unfamiliar visitors before allowing them inside. One outlet also notes Shinde had previously posed as a beggar before impersonating a transgender person.
