Google is rolling out a new interactive “Preferred Sources” button that publishers can embed on their websites. When readers click the button, the publisher is added to the reader’s list of preferred sources within Google products such as Top Stories and AI Overviews. Google says the feature is meant to help readers more easily find and follow publications they prefer.

The Next Web reports the button is one of several personalization updates Google announces alongside it. In addition to preferred sources, Google also introduces changes related to a chatbot that tunes the Discover feed and controls that let users adjust topics for audio news briefings. Across coverage, the central focus is on giving publishers a direct way to signal their inclusion in a user’s personalized information settings.

While both outlets describe the same core functionality, they differ in emphasis: one highlights the button’s role in connecting publisher sites to Google’s Top Stories and AI Overviews, while the other frames the release as part of a broader set of reader personalization tools unveiled at the same time.
