APC stakeholders in Osun State submit a petition to President Bola Tinubu following the party’s governorship election defeat to Accord on August 15. The petition is authored by Professor Akin Adeyanju and Sola Ajayi, coordinator and secretary of the Osun APC Stakeholders Forum, and expresses regret over the loss despite Tinubu’s support for the party.

The petition argues that internal decisions by former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, contribute significantly to the defeat. Stakeholders accuse Oyetola of appointing friends, allies and relatives to federal roles, selecting candidates unilaterally, and excluding other party stakeholders and elders’ advice. They say the concentration of appointments within his hometown and faction alienates parts of the party base across Osun’s three senatorial districts, affecting support for APC.

Across the two reports, the stated response is consistent: the stakeholders urge Tinubu to order an independent review of Osun APC leadership and candidate-selection processes, convene reconciliation talks involving Oyetola, party elders and dissatisfied stakeholders, and ensure more representative treatment in federal appointments. They also call for investigation of primary conduct and steps such as a state congress to rebuild unity.
