Former lawmaker Dino Melaye criticizes President Bola Tinubu for appointing himself as chairman of his 2027 presidential campaign council. He describes the arrangement as abnormal and argues that it reflects distrust within Tinubu’s political circle.

The criticism follows the All Progressives Congress (APC) announcement of a presidential campaign council list, released on Saturday. The list names Tinubu as chairman and Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman. Melaye, reacting on his official Facebook page, says a presidential candidate serving as chairman of his own campaign council is unprecedented and “disgraceful.”

Across the reports, the focus remains on Melaye’s personal remarks rather than on additional responses from Tinubu or the APC explaining the rationale for the appointments. Melaye also adds that he views Tinubu’s move as evidence of distrust of APC governors and ministers, portraying Tinubu as “afraid” of others and even of his own shadow.
