A class action lawsuit filed this week alleges that Twitch and Amazon used video content from Twitch streamers to train generative AI models without proper licensing or consent. The complaint accuses the companies of breaching contract by using streamers’ broadcasts as “free training stock” for separate commercial AI products.

According to reporting, Twitch recently adds an option intended to allow users to opt out of having their channel content used for AI training. Earlier communications from Twitch Support on the platform X are cited alongside a Patch Notes broadcast in which Twitch leadership addresses why AI training settings are enabled by default, saying that an opt-in system would result in few participants. The lawsuit argues that consent was not obtained from streamers and challenges the adequacy of the default setting.

Across the sources, the core dispute centers on whether Twitch streamers give meaningful permission for their content to be used for Amazon’s AI training, and whether Twitch’s configuration option and related messaging satisfy consent and contractual requirements.
