African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kola Ologbondiyan says the removal of Nigeria’s fuel subsidy continues to cause severe hardship for Nigerians. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Sunrise Daily*, he warns President Bola Tinubu’s administration that the policy is damaging both ordinary citizens and the government itself.
Ologbondiyan backs ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s position on the subsidy issue and says neither he nor Atiku is calling for a return to the previous subsidy system. Instead, he argues the focus should be on reviewing the entire fuel production-to-consumer chain to identify where costs can be reduced so that end users pay less than current prices. He challenges claims that Atiku has reversed his 2023 stance, calling such assertions “laughable.”
Both outlets report that Ologbondiyan contrasts fuel prices before and after the policy change announced in 2023, saying prices have risen sharply—from about ₦200 per litre or less before 29 May 2023 to around ₦1,300 per litre now. He also questions whether promised benefits of the subsidy removal have materialised, saying the country’s population is “to their knees.”
