A pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Akwa Ibom State rejects reports that the PDP has collapsed its structures to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group, PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPA-J), says it remains active and organised across the state.
In its statement, PAPA-J responds to claims that the PDP and other opposition parties have endorsed the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno. The group describes such reports as fabrications meant to suggest broad acceptance for the APC. It also accuses the APC of political desperation, including borrowing PDP identity due to the opposition party’s popularity in the state.
PAPA-J further says no legitimate PDP structure in any of Akwa Ibom’s 31 local government areas has collapsed for the APC. It warns supporters not to be misled by individuals presented as PDP leadership at events, saying the authentic PDP leadership in the state is represented by Hon. (Barr.) Igwat Umoren. The group urges the public to disregard alleged secret arrangements presented as official PDP positions.
