The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrests three people in Maharashtra’s Raigad district in connection with an alleged CGST bribery case, after a trap catches a private intermediary accepting money.
CBI says it registered the case against a CGST superintendent on allegations of demanding an undue advantage to settle a GST/royalty matter involving a stone-quarrying firm. According to CBI, the original demand of Rs 1.50 crore was reduced to Rs 40 lakh through negotiations. The bribe is collected through the help of a private person, and the CBI lays a trap to catch the intermediary red-handed while accepting Rs 40 lakh. CBI adds that the acceptance is acknowledged by the superintendent and an additional commissioner.
Both outlets report the arrests and associated recovery of substantial cash and valuables during searches at premises linked to the accused. The Free Press Journal specifies that Rs 43 lakh in cash and jewellery worth about Rs 90 lakh are recovered, along with additional items, and says all three arrested individuals are produced before a competent court.
