Shyam Metalics is planning a fresh investment of ₹20,000 crore in West Bengal, according to reports by The Hindu and Business Standard. The company’s plans include expanding its existing operations and adding new capacity, with a focus on its facilities in Kharagpur and Jamuria. The company also proposes setting up a railway manufacturing unit at Kharagpur as part of the investment push.
As part of the expansion, Shyam Metalics expects to increase its workforce to around 45,000 employees. The investment is linked to the operating environment and policy framework in the state, and the company is seeking an easier land policy and faster industrial growth under the new government, as described in The Hindu. Business Standard similarly notes that the investment plans are subject to the state’s new industrial policy.
Both reports frame the announcement as a major scale-up in industrial activity in West Bengal, contingent on policy support and implementation related to land and industrial development.
