The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) warns it may withdraw or reconsider its support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Vijay if TVK aligns with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and includes the AIADMK rebel faction in the cabinet. CPM state secretary P. Shanmugam makes the warning at a press conference, citing ideological differences as a key reason for the potential change in support.
According to reporting, the CPM initially backed the TVK government to prevent the reimposition of President’s Rule and to reduce BJP’s influence. The current statement puts a condition on that arrangement, linking CPM’s continued support to TVK’s cabinet composition and political alliances.
Both outlets frame the issue as a pressure point ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, with the CPM signaling that alliance decisions by the ruling party could affect its willingness to continue supporting the government.
