Police in London arrest 169 people on the first day of Notting Hill Carnival, the Metropolitan Police confirm. The force reports the figure as of 7:45pm on Sunday.

According to the Met Police, most of the arrests take place within the carnival’s event perimeter. The Daily Mail says the arrests relate to a range of alleged offences, including drugs and weapons-related incidents, as well as sex offences.

Across the available reporting, there are no differences in the main figures and timing. The only emphasis varies in how the offences are grouped, but all coverage points to the same total number of arrests and the same late-evening reporting deadline on Sunday.
