Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) raises CNG prices by ₹2 per kg in and around Mumbai and increases domestic piped natural gas (PNG) by ₹1 per standard cubic metre (SCM), with the revised rates taking effect from September 1. The new CNG price is ₹88/kg in the region.
MGL attributes the changes to higher input gas costs, linked to international pricing indices and the increased expense of imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). The company says rising demand for CNG forces it to source a larger share of supply from imported RLNG, raising overall procurement costs. It also says the adjustment is intended to partially offset these increased costs while maintaining uninterrupted supply to consumers.
