OpenAI is establishing its first overseas applied-AI lab in Singapore through a multiyear partnership with the Singapore government. Singapore is also reported to be strengthening its AI position through partnerships with major AI and research organizations, including Google and OpenAI. Google DeepMind is concurrently expanding its presence in Singapore by opening a new research lab intended to advance AI development for the Asia-Pacific region.
OpenAI’s Singapore lab is expected to grow staffing to around 200 people and align its work with priorities that include public-sector productivity, finance, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.
