CD Projekt says development of The Witcher Remake—an announced project by Fool’s Theory—is paused while the company prioritizes other work and depends on technology advances expected from The Witcher 4. Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski says the remake’s progress is constrained by “technology dependencies” tied to the next main entry, meaning the team cannot move forward independently at this time.

Nowakowski adds that CD Projekt has temporarily integrated the remake’s development with production on The Witcher 4, with only a smaller portion of Fool’s Theory staff supporting the main project. He also frames the pause as part of a broader transition in CD Projekt’s tooling, as the studio moves from its RED Engine toward Unreal Engine—an approach that The Witcher 4 is expected to define.

Push Square similarly reports the remake is “put on ice,” noting that Fool’s Theory’s efforts have shifted toward Songs of the Past, the upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Across outlets, the shared explanation is that development focus and pipeline/asset dependencies link the remake to progress on The Witcher 4, delaying any near-term release window.
