Reports ahead of Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro launch say the phone’s Dynamic Island is set to be smaller while gaining additional functionality. Multiple outlets cite Bloomberg reporting that the reduced Dynamic Island will be able to handle more Live Activities than before.
AppleInsider and MacRumors both describe a shift from the Dynamic Island’s current two-item Live Activities limit to a three-item mode. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is cited as saying the Dynamic Island can display three ongoing tasks as Live Activities, with users able to toggle between three rather than only two. MacRumors adds that a leaker, identified as pdfu, posted a video showing a three-item Dynamic Island in an iOS 27 simulator, aligning with Gurman’s account.
MacRumors also provides additional technical detail from the same leak: the code appears to require a “sensor region” under a certain width (less than 100 layout points, or 16.57 mm). By comparison, the current iPhone 17 Pro’s sensor region is described as wider (20.76 mm), implying Apple needs hardware shrinkage to enable the new behavior. Overall, the outlets agree on the core claim—three Live Activities become possible on the iPhone 18 Pro—but differ in emphasis between general reporting and the leaked demonstration plus implementation details.
