“Wheel of Fortune” is returning for its 44th season with a new opening game designed to speed up early gameplay. The show will introduce a segment called “Fortune Frenzy” at the start of each episode, giving contestants a chance to win $1,000 for each puzzle solved on screen within seconds.
The change is presented as a way to help contestants settle in before the main round begins. Host Ryan Seacrest says the quick opener can help reduce nerves and adrenaline at the beginning of taping, allowing players to focus once the standard game starts. The program continues with Seacrest and Vanna White as co-hosts for the new season.
The outlets also reference recent behind-the-scenes disruption: Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton is reported to have been fired following an investigation into an incident involving illegal conduct aboard a commercial flight earlier this year. While one outlet focuses on how viewers will notice the faster start, both describe the same “Fortune Frenzy” addition. Season 44 premieres Sept. 14.
