Police in Palghar arrest 12 people in connection with an alleged assault and hospital ruckus at Relief Hospital following a dispute over treatment and discharge of a seriously injured Govinda. The incident takes place in the early hours of September 6, after Dahi Handi celebrations. Police say a group entered the hospital and got into an altercation with doctors and staff.
According to police, the case initially names 17 people. Arrests include nine Govinda troupe members in the morning and three more later in the day, with investigators using CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas to identify those involved. Rohit Gavit, the son of Palghar MLA Rajendra Gavit, is among those arrested and presented before the Palghar sessions court, which remands the accused in police custody until September 13. Times of India also reports that nine Govindas are apprehended alongside Rohit Gavit.
The Free Press Journal adds that suspended Yuva Sena leader Sairaj Patil is also taken into custody, bringing the arrest tally to 12. It further reports that Rahul Gharat, a Shiv Sena Palghar city chief, surrenders and is arrested, and that some accused approach the court seeking anticipatory bail, with applications scheduled for hearing on September 15.
