A chieftain of Nigeria’s Labour Party sues the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) over an alleged refusal to provide academic records of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. According to the court filings reported by both outlets, the suit seeks a certified true copy (CTC) of an academic certificate tied to Obi.

Vanguard reports that the plaintiff, Arabambi, says he requested a CTC of Obi’s certificate number D000198 for a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy issued in 1984, invoking Nigeria’s Freedom of Information Act. Vanguard adds that UNN turned down the request.

Premium Times, citing court documents made available, says the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting on the case and identifies the respondents as UNN’s Vice-Chancellor and UNN. The two reports focus on the same underlying allegation and requested document, while differing mainly in naming details and emphasis on the statutory basis and the specific certificate number and programme reported by Vanguard.
