They warn that the situation is worsening, with the outbreak “gaining momentum” and spreading in communities while responders face major constraints.
Several sources say there is currently no available vaccine or specific medicine for the Bundibugyo strain, increasing pressure on outbreak control measures such as surveillance, testing, safe care and infection prevention. They also note that the outbreak spread undetected for weeks before it was identified.
At the same time, the humanitarian and security environment is described as fragile. Armed groups continue to threaten safety in the region, which is already dealing with displacement and broader humanitarian needs. Collectively, the reports say these factors make it harder to deliver care and sustain response activities, prompting appeals for urgent additional resources.
