Sharma’s husband is reported to be absconding.
Retired judge Giribala Singh, identified as Sharma’s mother-in-law, denies accusations that she contacted “influential people” after Sharma’s death. She says any calls were made to offer condolences and also accuses local police of applying pressure. The reports add that Giribala Singh has publicly made disparaging remarks about Sharma, which Sharma’s family disputes.
The case is linked to police actions including First Information Reports under India’s Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The dispute centers on conflicting accounts of post-death communications and allegations surrounding treatment of Sharma before her death, as authorities pursue the investigation while Singh remains unaccounted for.
