A woman in Lucknow says the man accused of a hit-and-run and carrying her on a car’s bonnet introduced himself using a false name. She alleges that Shahnawaz (also identified by police as Shahnawaz Ali) called himself “Yash Thakur” before the incident. She reports she is a 22-year-old student who was struck by the vehicle and suffered injuries.
Police have arrested Shahnawaz and are investigating the woman’s claims about the alleged alias and the circumstances leading to the assault. In one account of the confrontation, the woman says an argument started after she saw Shahnawaz with another woman in his vehicle, and she claims the man then hit her and drove off with her on the bonnet, leaving her unconscious. The accused denies the allegation and says he is being falsely implicated.
Authorities are also pursuing related lines of inquiry involving a second person, Danish, and have booked the accused under attempt-to-murder provisions. The reports emphasize that the identity claim and the lead-up to the incident are still under verification.
