The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to coordinate aspects of economic policy, including inflation control, public debt and foreign-exchange (FX) management. The agreement is signed in Abuja and creates a formal framework for regular interaction between the Ministry of Finance and the CBN.
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso says the MoU supports policy coherence through structured consultation, information exchange and coordination on cash management, debt issuance planning, liquidity forecasting, macroeconomic analysis and periodic policy reviews. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele describes the arrangement as a way to ensure fiscal and monetary policies do not work at cross purposes, while stressing that the CBN’s operational independence remains intact.
The Nigerian Eye adds details that the CBN is moving toward an inflation-targeting approach and highlights joint technical work such as scenario planning and stress testing amid global uncertainties. The Punch, while covering the same core development, frames it more broadly around efforts to tackle inflation, debt and FX issues.
