A political commentator, Sam Amadi, says the Igbo people can produce Nigeria’s next president only through what he describes as “dignity.” Writing on X, Amadi frames dignity as a necessary “path” for any Igbo bid for the presidency.
The outlets note that calls intensified after Nigeria’s 2019 and 2023 elections for the South-East to provide the next head of state. In 2019, Amadi’s discussion appears alongside references to Peter Obi, who was the running mate to Atiku Abubakar of the PDP; the party lost that election. In 2023, Obi ran again for president after joining the Labour Party, but he finished third behind Atiku and the eventual winner, who was the APC candidate.
The reports also add that Obi intends to contest the 2027 presidential election again, this time under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Amadi continues to argue that dignity is the route to an Igbo presidency.
