India’s domestic air passenger traffic falls 6.34% year-on-year to 1.21 crore in August, according to DGCA data. Amid the demand slowdown, market-share positions shift: IndiGo remains the leading carrier, but its share declines, while SpiceJet sheds additional ground.
IndiGo is reported with a 65% domestic market share in August, down from 67.4% in July, while carrying 78.87 lakh passengers. Air India Group increases its share to 26.7% from 24% in July, transporting 32.32 lakh passengers, maintaining second place. Akasa Air keeps a third-place position with roughly 5.5% market share and 6.68 lakh passengers.
Outlets also highlight that SpiceJet’s market share drops to 1.2% in August from 1.6% in July, carrying 1.40 lakh passengers. Reports attribute some competitive pressures to operating and cost factors, including rising ATF prices, while noting differences in on-time performance among major airlines.
