Apple’s iPhone Handoff feature in iOS 27 lets customers switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device. The feature is available on compatible iPhones running iOS 27 and is designed for use across devices rather than simultaneously.
In the U.S., multiple carriers are moving toward support. T-Mobile is the first to offer iPhone Handoff and charges $5 per month. Verizon is also set to add support later this year, and Deutsche Telekom has begun offering the service with a €6.95 monthly charge under certain plan conditions. Apple states other carriers, including Verizon and EE, will add support later this year.
AT&T is the main outlier, with different outlets describing its position in contrasting ways. One report quotes an AT&T spokesperson telling CNET that the carrier sees “potential” in iPhone Handoff, but that its near-term focus remains on existing eSIM activation and transfer options. Another outlet frames AT&T as a deliberate holdout and says it is not interested in providing the feature, while still acknowledging broader plans by other carriers. iOS 27 released on September 14.
