Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to travel to Canada next week to boost discussions on a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) and to strengthen investment and business collaboration. According to reports, Goyal will lead a business delegation of more than 150 members during a visit from May 25 to May 27, with meetings planned in Ottawa and Toronto involving political leaders and business representatives.
The minister is set to call on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and will hold a bilateral meeting with Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s counterpart. Business Standard also reports that Goyal plans to meet representatives of “Maple 8,” referring to Canada’s eight largest public pension funds that collectively manage assets estimated at about 2.4 trillion Canadian dollars and are described as influential long-term investors.
