Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (MW4) brings back its extraction shooter mode DMZ and lets pre-order customers play it early. Activision says DMZ becomes available on Tuesday, October 20—before the game’s October 23 release—while campaign early access starts earlier on October 16. The mode is included with preorders across platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.

DMZ drops players into an open-world environment on the brand-new Hajin map, where they loot, complete objectives, fight both AI enemies and other human “Operators,” and then extract to keep rewards. Outlets describe a deeper progression system, with a DMZ player level track running from 1 to 70. The mode also adds new ways to play, including different mission types with varying risk levels, plus optional activities such as lieutenant hunts.

A key expansion is a new between-match social space, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) on Hajin. Sources say the FOB functions as a hub to manage operators, build and upgrade loadouts, store loot, test weapons, and use crafting systems such as a 3D printer. Activision also outlines additional post-launch plans, including new content seasons.
