Former Cross River State governor Donald Duke says he will reduce Nigeria’s petrol price to about ₦300 per litre if elected president in the 2027 general election. Duke, who is running for president on the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), makes the pledge during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

Across the outlets, Duke argues that Nigeria’s current petroleum pricing approach is harmful to households, particularly low-income earners, and presents it as tied to international benchmarks rather than domestic production realities. He criticizes the existing subsidy regime, calling it a “scam” in one account, and says petroleum products should be priced according to production costs.

To support his proposal, Duke outlines a plan to direct part of Nigeria’s crude oil output for domestic consumption while selling the remainder internationally. The reports cite production and consumption figures to support his arithmetic, and note that his proposed pricing is positioned as part of a wider economic platform aimed at easing fuel costs for Nigerians.
