Rivers State’s Labour Party chapter has announced its support for the “rainbow coalition” led by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, presenting it as an approach to inclusive politics ahead of 2027. In a statement dated Wednesday, Labour Party Rivers chairman Fredrick Nwoje said the coalition brings together politicians from multiple parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party.

Nwoje praised Wike for prioritising Rivers State’s interests and described him as politically strategic. He also pointed to Wike’s public involvement in campaigning for President Bola Tinubu while continuing to deliver infrastructure projects in the FCT as an example of political conviction. The statement criticises opposition from the APC Governors Forum, portraying its stance against the coalition as driven by panic or envy, and says the Labour Party plans to act as a stakeholder rather than a spectator in the platform.
