Minister of Works David Umahi dismisses reports of a rift with Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, saying they are still closely aligned politically. Speaking in Abuja, he responds to rumours about division within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and speculation about the relationship between the two politicians. Umahi describes Wike as a progressive ally and says they should be seen as “one family,” adding that both “need” each other.

Umahi’s comments come amid broader political talk around Wike’s “rainbow coalition,” which he has said is meant to move beyond conventional party politics toward a collective effort to advance state interests. Some groups, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), signal they would not support alliances that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or the APC’s 2027 candidates. Separately, Umahi also uses the occasion to defend government infrastructure work and procurement processes for major projects, saying the administration is addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit.
