A man, Nathan Wood, is jailed after being convicted of PIP disability benefit fraud that inflated his day-to-day mobility needs. Prosecutors say he claimed he could not walk unaided and required equipment such as a walking frame or wheelchair while receiving Personal Independence Payment money over several years.

Outlets report the case centres on photographs from cruise holidays, which allegedly show him posing in ways that contradict his stated disability and support the fraud allegations. The court heard he over-exaggerated symptoms, described as rheumatoid arthritis, in claims to the Department for Work and Pensions.

Across the reports, the agreed figure is that Wood pocketed about £53,800 in PIP payments. The coverage also says the fraud took place over nine years and was identified through evidence linking his benefit claims to his travel and apparent mobility during the cruise trip.
