Ukraine’s ambassador to Turkey says he expects NATO leaders at the July 7–8 summit in Ankara to discuss financial support for Kyiv, despite difficulties securing agreement from member states. Ambassador Nariman Dzhelialov tells Reuters that Ukraine hopes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will attend the summit. He adds that Kyiv is urging NATO members to reaffirm their backing for Ukraine’s strategic goal of joining the alliance.
On funding, Dzhelialov suggests a framework in which each NATO member contributes a relatively small share of its budget. However, he notes that the idea has not yet gained traction among some allies, indicating that support for new or expanded financing is still being negotiated. The ambassador’s remarks reflect Ukraine’s expectation that the agenda at the summit will include discussion of assistance levels and mechanisms, even as consensus among NATO members appears incomplete.
