Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu urges Indian technology professionals in the United States to “come back” and help build India’s tech sector, citing increasing uncertainty around the US green-card process. In posts on social media, he acknowledges Indian contributions to US technology while saying changing US attitudes toward immigrant professionals are creating difficult choices for people whose careers and families are already in place.

Multiple outlets link his appeal to reported US Department of Labor action affecting employment-based green-card sponsorships. They say eight IT firms are suspended from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme, which is used as a step toward permanent residency. While the reports indicate existing H-1B status is not directly invalidated, the restrictions are described as halting new and pending green-card sponsorship applications. India’s former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan is also reported to have endorsed Vembu’s call. Outlets frame the situation as affecting the long-running queues for green cards and raising questions for Indian professionals about whether to remain in the US or pursue opportunities at home.
